NORTHERN HEIGHTS DRIVER EDUCATION

SUMMARY OF GRADUATED DRIVER'S LICENSE  

 

INSTRUCTION PERMIT

  •             Minimum age: 14
  •             Must pass written and vision exam.
  •             Must have parent or legal guardian and birth certificate to obtain. 
  •             Must be accompanied by legally licensed adult (at least 21) with one year driving experience.

 

RESRTICTED LICENSE:

  •             Minimum age: 15
  •             Must successfully complete an approved Driver Education course.
  •             Must have held instruction permit for one full year and completed at least 25 hours of supervised driving.

            IF UNDER 16 MAY DRIVE WITHOUT LICENSED ADULT:

  •                     To and from work.
  •                     To and from school in the most direct route for the purpose of attending class.
  •                     NO non sibling minor passengers allowed.

                    

            IF OVER AGE 16 AND HAS COMPLETED 50 HOURS OF SUPERVISED DRIVING (10 HOURS AT NIGHT) MAY DRIVE WITHOUT LICENSED ADULT IN ADDITION TO ABOVE:

  •                     For any purpose between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.
  •                     To/from authorized school activities.
  •                     One non-immediate family member minor passenger less than 18 is allowed. 
  •                     No wireless communication device while driving except to report illegal activity or to summon emergency help.

UNRESTRICTED LICENSE :

  •             No restrictions at age 16&1/2  if all prior requirements have been met and no infractions have occurred.
