NHHS ART COURSES
Course Name: Beginning Art Grades: 9-12
Course Length: Year
Course Description: This art elective offers a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional experiences. It is open to all students regardless of their art experience or ability. Areas covered include: drawing, painting, ceramics and jewelry. Students will be introduced to Art History and a vocabulary of art terms.
Course Name: Advanced Art Prerequisite: Beg. Art
Course Length: Semester or Year Grades: 10-12
Course Description: This class builds on the skills introduced in Beginning Art. Students will explore and develop their skills in 2-dimensional work such as pencil, colored pencil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, ink and computer graphics.
Course Name: Ceramics & Sculpture Grades: 10-12
Course Length: Semester or Year Prerequisite: Beg. Art
Course Description: This is a 3-dimensional class where students will model, carve and assemble clay and other various materials into a composition using tools and techniques. In addition, students will also develop skills and techniques using the potter’s wheel.
Course Name: Independent Art Study Grade: 12
Course Length: Semester or Year
Prerequisite: Beginning Art , 1 year of Advanced Art & permission of the instructor.
Course Description: This is for students who are highly motivated and are willing to work independently in a specific area of study. They will be monitored and guided by the instructor.
