On November 10, 2009, the NHHS FBLA Chapter put on a Veteran’s Day Program Assembly in the North Gym at the high school. Veterans were on hand to attend the event and it was a pleasant and patriotic program. The Star Spangled Banner was sung by senior Justin Richardson, while Nathan Stinson, Travis Clark and Nathan Hill posted the Flag. The Welcome was presented by Chapter President Jessica Dhority, whom was also involved in a Tribute to Veterans skit with Sierra Taylor, Nicki Upshaw, Annabelle Arndt and Katelyn Zornes. There were three readings: “Take My Hand” by Lynn Price-Recited by Chapter Treasurer Elizabeth Smith, “The Definition of a Soldier” by Joshua Blanton-Recited by DJ Bronson and “A Soldier,” by Angela Goodwin-Recited by Chelsea Carr. The NHHS Wildcat Band was on hand and played several patriotic tunes: Patriotic Parade Sequence, Shout It Out, Ghost Riders in the Sky and Military Medley. Also, Wildcat Trumpet soloist Ashley Buss played Taps. Cake and punch were served in the south gym following the ceremony and the chapter members mingled with the Vets to close out a productive and rewarding day for our NHHS FBLA Chapter!
The Northern Heights FBLA Chapter started the second middle level chapter in Kansas. It first started with high school chapter president Jessica Dhority and chapter vice-president Justin Richardson talking to all of the Junior High students about joining FBLA. We then sent letters to parents that their kids showed interest in joining FBLA. The North Lyon County Middle Level FBLA held their first meeting on November 24, 2009 and elected officers for the Middle Level Club. The Junior High students will go to the same competitions that high school students go to but will compete in their own division.
For the first time we had seven officers go to National Fall Leadership Conference in Denver. The officers that went
are Jessica Dhority, president; Sierra Taylor, secretary; Elizabeth Smith, treasurer; Kimberly Smith, historian; Arissa Moyer, editor; Nathan Stinson, parliamentarian; Sierra Donelson, student council representative and Kim Dhority, sponsor. Some of the workshops we went to are Go for Green, Effective Team Connections, and Cover to Cover. Jessica and Kim Dhority presented a workshop called Cover to Cover which was about the school publishing the districts yearbooks. In Denver we toured the Colorado Capital Building and Denver Art Museum which we saw 14 floors of art. We shopped and ate on 16th Street Pedestrian Mall.
The Northern Heights Chapter of FBLA will be sponsoring a Technology Help Session on a variety of topics during the months of January, February and March. See the attached schedule of workshops and come join in the learning fun.
