Some projects and activities for the 2010-2011 school year are as follows:

A Monkey in My Chair

In October we set up a booth at Americus Days to earn money for "A Monkey in My Chair" Foundation.  $75 was raised to buy a kit for children admitted to the hospital.  This program is designed for pre-school and elementary aged children who are away from school because of a serious illness.  Children are provided with a "monkey kit" which includes a big stuffed monkey to take their place when they are unable to be there.  The kits also include a smaller monkey with a backpack, a book, and other items that they or their classmates can use.  All kits are sent out to the families of the children or hospitals at no cost.

The NHHS chapter purchased the kit to be used at Newman Hospital.  We presented the monkey kit at Newman Hospital to be used for a child from Madison, Kansas.

Leadership Conference

In November, members attended a leadership conference at Burlington High School.  They day consisted of skits, speakers, social time, and community service.  Two projects worked on by members were hygiene kits for Veterans in the Hospital and a blanket project to be given to SOS in Emporia.  A $75 donation was also made to Children's Miracle Network.

Christmas

We visited Holiday Resort in December.  Members made Christmas cards to give out to senior citizens.  They spent the morning playing dominoes and chatting with the residents.

The chapter also voted to adopt a family for Christmas.  SOS has families in need during this time of year.  Some members went shopping and wrapped presents for the adopted family.

Winterball

Winterball will be Saturday February 12th.  The theme is "Winter Wonderland."  Pictures will start at 7:00 with dance shortly after from 8:00-11:30.  The cost is $4 per person.  Semi-formal dress please
