Course Information:
Human Growth and Development - (0.5 credit, 1st semester, sophomore level and up) Learn about the principals of growth and development across the life span. Strategies for relationship in family, work, and communities will be analyzed.
Family Studies - (0.5 credit, 2nd semester, sophomore level and up) Emphasis will be placed on strengthening the lives of individuals, families, and relationships. Analyze parenting roles and responsibilities. Study family and societies.
Introduction to FACS - (0.5 credit, 1st or 2nd semester, freshman level) Discover the skill and knowledge to successful families, careers, and communities. This course introduces you to consumer skills, wellness practices, relationship skills, family issues, and self-development.
Nutrition and Wellness - (0.5 credit, 1st semester, sophomore level and up) Learn about the practices that enhance individual and family well-being. Evaluate nutritional needs and dietary guidelines. Physical, emotional, and social health are addressed. Healthy and unhealthy lifestyles are analyzed, as well as, at-risk behaviors.
Food Fundamentals - (0.5 credit, 2nd semester, sophomore level and up) Study the food pyramid, nutritional needs, and dietary guidelines more in depth. Learn basic food preparation by demonstration skills necessary with each food group. Healthy meal planning and choices are emphasized.
Career and Community Connections - (0.5 credit, 1st semester, sophomore level and up) Analyze career paths that are available in relationship to your education and personal goals. Study job skills, strategies, and responsibilities necessary in the work environment. Learn about multiple life roles in family, work, and community.
Consumer Education - Study management practices related to human and economic resources. Learn to manage time, money, and resources to meet personal and family needs. Analyze relationships between economic systems and consumer behavior.
Teaching as a Career - (1 credit, full year, junior level and up) Explore the possibility of teaching as a life-long career. This class is designed to discover theories, history, and strategies of teaching along with the world of working with children. Job based experience and observation are a part of this class.
FCCLA - Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a dynamic and effective national student organization which lets you learn and develop practical, real word skills and talents. Emphasis is placed on leadership and community service. FCCLA is considered extra-curricular but integrated into the classroom. Meetings are the last Wednesday of each month during homeroom.
