Mrs. Thomas' Courses
Accounting I
We are currently working on our Fitness Junction business simulation packets. Each student is given a packet with source documents, a checkbook, general and subsidiary ledgers and a book of journals. We are completing all of the accounting transactions for the business during the month of December. Students should have plenty of time in class to complete their work by the due date of February 22nd. However, if they miss a day of class or do not use their time wisely, they may be required to take it home to get it done on time.
Economics
We are wrapping up our unit on Market Institutions. So far we have learned about the different forms of businesses found in the surrounding communities, labor markets, supply and demand of resources, how wages are determined and most recently we talked about labor unions. We will conclude this lesson learning about financial markets and business growth.
Personal Finance
This week we will finish our unit on careers. We top off the unit by watching Pursuit of Happyness, a movie inspired by a man's true story of how his hard work and determination pay off to land him a job that will change his family's life.
Next on the agenda in Personal Finance is our Manners/Business Etiquette lesson. Students will learn how to dress and act in different types of business settings including lunch interviews and business dinners.
Applied Accounting
This course is an introduction to the basics of accounting and record keeping. The skills presented in this course serve as a sound background for employment in office jobs.
Keyboarding
This is a a nine-weeks course offered to freshman who opt out of Drivers' Education or Health. Students learn to use Microsoft Word and Excel as well as the Internet to refresh and tune their keyboarding skills.
