Face Mask Update

April 27, 2021

Dear USD 251 School Community,

The USD 251 Board of Education voted to amend the Return to School Plan making mask wearing on school property optional where social distancing of 6 feet can be achieved effective April 28, 2021. Masks are still required while riding school transportation and anywhere social distancing cannot be maintained.

Please remember that if someone at school tests positive for COVID, USD 251 will follow the current health guidelines from KDHE and the Lyon County Health Department. Everyone within 6 feet of the positive person for more than 10 consecutive minutes will be subject to a 14-day quarantine per Lyon County Health Department requirements. Quarantine guidelines go back 2 days from the onset of symptoms. If the close contact has been vaccinated or the close contact has recovered after testing positive for COVID in the past 6 months, then quarantine rules don’t apply. If you have any questions, you can contact the Lyon County Health Department.

The USD 251 community of students, staff, and visitors have done a great job keeping our schools in-person this school year. Our absence rate has been very low throughout the school year. These results have allowed us to make masks optional whenever social distancing can be achieved.

If you have any questions, please contact me at blairb@usd251.org or 620-481-2085.
