COVID-19 Update

August 12, 2021

Greetings USD 251 North Lyon County Families,

Thank you for your continued positive support of our students and staff as we continue our planning to provide safe in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year.

I want to take this opportunity to share some recent information our school district received from the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), which requires all school districts to comply with an existing federal order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  This order applies to all students who will be riding a school bus or other school transportation and requires all students and drivers to wear masks over the mouth and nose. USD 251 will ensure that our drivers have extra masks available should your children be without one.

As you know the USD 251 Board of Education amended some items in the Return to School Plan on June 9, 2021.  Furthermore, at yesterday evening’s Board of Education meeting, the board approved one additional change to address the federal mask mandate mentioned above.  The changes to the Return to School Plan are as follows:

  • Masks and face coverings are optional (parental decision for students) – changed 6/9/21
  • 3 foot distancing when possible – changed 6/9/21
  • No temperature checks required – changed 6/9/21
  • Allow visitors to enter the building after passing a brief health screening – changed 6/9/21
  • Allow approved outside groups to have building access – changed 6/9/21
  • Disinfecting of desks continuing – changed 6/9/21
  • All students and staff entering a bus or other school transportation will be required to wear a mask or face covering during transportation – changed 8/11/21

We really appreciate your time in reviewing this information and your continued patience given the continually changing circumstances that require flexibility from all of us. Please know that we will share any additional updates or changes with you as we learn about them.  Again, thank you for your support of the educational program at USD 251 as we move forward.
