The National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the most prestigious organizations available to high school students, recognizing outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. At Northern Heights High School, NHS membership is open to juniors and seniors who demonstrate these qualities both in and out of the classroom.
Students become eligible to apply halfway through their sophomore year if they hold a 3.5 GPA or higher. Those who are selected will officially be welcomed during the NHS Induction Ceremony on March 10, 2026.
This year, the Northern Heights NHS chapter has already begun preparing meaningful service opportunities for members. The first blood drive will be held on September 10, 2025, at NLC Elementary, providing a chance for students and community members to give back in a life-saving way. Later in the semester, members will host the Senior Citizen Dinner on December 5, 2025, continuing a beloved tradition of honoring and connecting with the community’s older generations.
Looking ahead, NHS plans to continue signature service events like the blood drive and senior citizens’ banquet, as well as add small fundraising projects. The funds raised will go toward a scholarship awarded to graduating NHS seniors who have shown dedication to the chapter and plan to further their education after high school.
Northern Heights NHS has a proud history of excellence. In the past three years alone, three students, Taylor Pringle, Bethany DeDonder, and Addisyn Hinrichs, qualified for the National NHS Scholarship, each receiving $3,200 to help with college expenses. Their success demonstrates the opportunities the HS provides for motivated students at Northern Heights.
With a commitment to service, leadership, and academic success, the Northern Heights National Honor Society continues to make a lasting impact on both its members and the community.
